Caleb got me these bath bombs made by @_r_u_e_s_ for Christmas and had her gift wrap them too...and they are just the prettiest. I had to save as much of the wrapping/presentation as I could and put them on display...honestly as much a treat for the eyes as for the skin!

Best part, all the ingredients are so pure they’re edible. 😍 (Although, we have that whole “clean enough to eat” thing rather backwards...a while back I learned that our skin, as our largest organ, is actually less equipped to filter toxins than our digestive system...so the fact that skincare is less accurately labeled and marketed than food is rather alarming.)

I’m in no hurry to send Arlo off to school, but as I’m cherishing these short years I have with him at home, I’m aware that his exposure to the world is limited and that the interaction he does have with others are fairly limited to those with life experiences much like his own. So how can I help him integrate other cultures, environments, family dynamics and circumstances into his realm of understanding? Through books, of course!
In the last two weeks, as we “Very Hungry Caterpillar-ed” our way through our entire storybook collection, we discussed homelessness, adoption, parent separation/divorce, pets, illness and death, siblings, war, and other subjects to which he’s not yet had firsthand exposure. Additionally, we’ve learned about types of homes, jobs, beliefs, activities, languages, dreams, and more outside our current bubble of reality.
I may not be able to give my child “the world”...but I can give him books. And by spending time snuggled up together reading (and facilitating conversations about what we read), I can give him the immeasurable gifts of mindfulness, compassion, and independent, critical thinking skills.

Yesterday was the marked end, for me, of the holiday season. I’ve taken the most lovely hiatus for a full two weeks+ and it’s been the longest and truest “break” from business responsibilities that I’ve had in years.
I’ve read hundreds of books to Arlo (literally—I kept track), taken lots of long candlelit baths, taken in all the magic of Christmas through the eyes of a 3-year-old, sorted and organized things around the house, spent a lot of time with my sisters, slept in late without shame, and gone with the flow without stress. It was the best December of my life.
Today I’m jumping back into the game, re-downloading all my social media and messaging apps on my phone, reconnecting with the Reader Generation community, resuming usual responsibilities, renewed and excited for all the new year holds!
